Criminal Procedure Project Team

The Criminal Procedure Project Team was formed to expand the reach of the 7th Circuit Council on eDiscovery and Digital Information to the practice of criminal law. The Project Team is made up of practitioners from both the prosecution and defense bars. We are responsible for adding to ediscoverycouncil.com electronic discovery-related materials that are of interest to criminal practitioners, such as the Joint Electronic Technology Working Group’s Recommendations and Strategies for ESI Discovery. The Project Team also hosts events that feature speakers of national and local prominence to educate about, and facilitate the expanding use of, electronic discovery in criminal cases. Through its efforts, the Project Team hopes to bring together criminal practitioners from both the prosecution and defense bars, to identify frequently occurring electronic discovery issues, and to work collaboratively to address those problems. The Project Team also intends to develop and make available additional educational resources, to assist in making electronic discovery more efficient, secure, and less costly for criminal practitioners. The following materials will be beneficial to criminal law practitioners facing issues of electronic discovery:

JETWG Recommendations for ESI Discovery in Fed. Crim. Cases and Commentary.

Holder, In the Digital Age, Ensuring that the Department Does Justice.

JETWG, Guidance for the Provision of ESI to Detainees.
